I have much to thank this band for . They were one of the few bands that kept the spirit of Rockerbilly , 50s rock and Blues rock alive at a time when not many people were playing it
Might want to look up underated. How many times has Brian been in Guitar Player magazine? It doesn't matter if he goes out with the Stray Cats, BSO, or Rock-o-billy Riot it's bound to sell out. Hell, he even a couple of Guitar only tours one with Neil Shon and another with Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. I know of at least one guitar player that may actually be underated, Jim Heath of Reverend Horton Heat. If you dig Mr. Setzer you might dig the Reverend Horton Heat.
I saw that tour in Bonn/West Germany and it is still one of my Top Notch Concerts I've ever been to. They just needed one hour and a quarter to rock and shock the audience includin' da capos. Brian is the best Rock'n'Roll guitar player, singer & songwriter I know and I'm playing the guitar myself for 40 Years, too. God thank you he is still around and still playin' live...
@@wastl700 , I could tell from the look on Slim Jim's face that he's interested in doing "Fishnet Stockings".... I was surprised when I heard the intro for it
The Stray Cats & Japan = marriage made in rock heaven. Setzer at his zenith, comparable to Clapton with Cream, Hendrix Monterey Pop, Beck with Yardbirds… A guitarist who redefined guitar driven rock. Derivative Innovative Virtuosity… Plus he had the looks to carry it. I agree that he should have morphed into blues, and redefined that too… And needs the original trio. They had magic.
Great video. I saw these guys in SF in 89. I remember the drummer started out with just a snare then after a few songs added a cymbal then finally the bass. He had an amazing amount of sound with such a limited drum set. Bass player did a solo laying on top of his stand up bass that was awesome. Setzer played foggy mountain on banjo. Fantastic show.
My dad had this vhs with the full encore. I used to watch it literally about every other day. 30 years later STILL one if my favorite concerts. (Side note, I AM 30)
Your dad had great taste, and so do you. Been a fan since they broke over here in the UK. Setzer is my all time favourite guitarist, and a damn fine singer .
Remember catching the Stray Cats in the 90s on the Choo Choo Hot Fish reunion. It cost $35 which was the most I had ever paid for a concert at that point. Concerts were between $5 to $12 at this point. And I am spending $35 to see them in a club that held no more than 300 people. Totally worth. Stood in front of Jello Biafra and his wife as an added bonus. :-)
Bought Choo Choo right when it came out. Thought it would be a massive hit as it has great new songs and covers. Was not to be. Cool you got to see Jello
Love this concert, great choice of songs- great energy as always. Only thing I don't like is Brian's shaven sides of his hair.. He has such beautiful hair he shouldn't dare touch it! - anyway, that onwards walk to The Wanderer was so class!!! x

Holy shit, I wonder what Earl Scruggs would have made of that version of Foggy Mountain Breakdown? Certainly not for the purist! Never noticed Slim Jim played left handed until now. Brian has dropped at least one amp over the years, and his guitar playing is more refined now, I think Rumble in Brixton is definitely a better gig, but this gig is great also!. Great sound, thanks for sharing.

Exactly! He is PURE GENIUS!!!
I think title belongs to the late Danny Gatton. Look him up.

I was at the show the night before this one. Still on my short list of greatest-ever concerts. It was just incredible!
Just a legendary band the stray cats. Love them no competition.
forever the best rockabilly band

Easily one of, if not THE best video/Audio tracks for the Stray Cats on You tube today.
Great show, Brian is definitely up there with the top guitarists! And a great vocalist! Saw them around this time, in the 90s in Ventura CA
Great to get a peek at the pre-show back stage vibe!

i was at that show.
A lot of people who play that old style bass are sort of posing, but this guy was always good. He actually sounds great on it.

How professional is that! Like an exact 60min show
He singlehandedly kept Swing and Rockabilly alive...a Rebirth
31:14 I saw Slim Jim going all "orchestra conductor mode" in Stray Cat Strut. I didn't know he can do that
try Red Elvises
Brian is one great guitar player, and great song writer. They are so underrated.

Probabilmente uno dei migliori concerti del gruppo anche come scelta delle loro canzoni con relativo effetto sonoro assicurato.

i didn't mind the hair but maybe because there wasn't any hair towards the top. Plus he did this for a tokyo theme, blend in look.
You're right about his hair not his best style .

Since Slim Jim wouldn't switch his snare as to not over ride the bass I notice Brian has tones down his guitar so the bass can be heard.
